Oprah's No Phone Zone Pledge

Texting while driving is the equivalent of driving after having 4 drinks.

I'm someone that likes to play devil's advocate, but there's really nothing I can say to justify texting while driving or the fact that it does cause a major distraction while on the road. Even being in the car with a friend while they try to balance driving and texting makes me uncomfortable - - yet what have I done to change anything?
Well, I started off saying that I wouldn't text while actively driving, instead opting to send/receive messages at stop lights. However I didn't think that was enough, so I've taken Oprah's No Phone Zone Pledge!

Yes, this will seem a bit extreme to some people but texting while driving is really dangerous. Most people can't even drive with no distractions in the car... add a cell phone and it's a recipe for disaster.

I'm not saying that this will be easy for me. I'm addicted to my blackberry... but the best way I've found to make things easier is keeping my phone in my purse and out of my reach while in the car. I think we should all challenge ourselves to be better and this is something I'm passionate about.
