Reality Check: Jilted?

The latest addition to the marriage minded WE tv lineup, Jilted? chronicles the journey of women tired of waiting for a proposal that decide to take matters into their own hands. Not only do they propose to their boyfriends, but they drop the bombshell ultimatum that everything is planned to happen within a week... or they will be gone forever. Talk about making a decision under pressure!

Call me old fashioned but I really believe that a marriage proposal should come from the man. I don't believe in relationship ultimatums either... it just seems like a recipe for disaster! You can't make someone do something they don't want to and marriage is the last thing you want to twist someone's arm to do. I understand that some men drag their feet and women just want to give them a gentle nudge... but going on a reality show where a wedding is planned to happen w/in 7 days? I think these women are playing themselves.

New episodes air Sunday nights on WE tv @ 10/9p central

Happy Food Coma Day

My day has been full of food, too much "Angry Birds" and a "The First 48" marathon. I'm on my 2nd glass of wine and feeling the onset of my Food Coma setting in. All in all I'm a happy camper!

Happy Food Coma day to you and yours :) Eat up...

Life Lessons from Sex and the City 4:3

In relationships we all have boundaries and in episode 3 (season 4) Miranda found herself faced with a boyfriend that was a bit too open... as in leaving the door wide open while he handled his business in the bathroom.

Personally I don't mind a quick #1 in front of my husband but anything more intense is definitely better left a solo activity.

When it comes to using the bathroom in front of your significant other do you have an open door policy?

Media Backlash

I was watching ESPN First Take the other day as they talked about the new Call of Duty: Black Ops commercial featuring NBA superstar Kobe Bryant (as well as other celebs). In the commercial Bryant can be seen wielding an assault rifle as he participates in game play. The media has taken his appearance in the commercial and ran... wait, sprinted with it.

Reading one of the many articles bashing the ad, it became clearly evident that this was a personal attack on him. People it's just a video game! By no means is Bryant "endorsing violence on the streets" by participating in an ad for a video game that he probably plays, along with millions of others around the world. Blaming him for the violence that occurs everyday in America is outlandish and irresponsible. Folks have been killing one another long before video games ever came out.

Being someone who's actually served in Afghanistan and put their life on the line, I wasn't offended by the ad at all. I actually thought it was marketing genius. There's a "soldier in all of us" is a great line for a video game about war. Depicting regular people coming together to play a game hits the point and if the only thing you got out of it was "Kobe Bryant has a gun" my God... you've completely missed the point.

People are so sensitive these days and it seems as if we live in a society where you constantly have to be aware of the things you say because someone might be offended. My thoughts? Lighten up and pay attention to more important matters. We have more important things going on in the world than an NBA player in a commercial.

Fashion Fix: Sequined Dreams

I'll be the first to say that I'm not the biggest fan of Bebe... nor their Kardashian collection... but when I saw this gold, sequined jacket I had a Rachel Zoe moment. Ba-nan-as! iDie for this coat. I'm a sucker for anything gold and shiny and this jacket hits the spot in my world. I envision pairing this with everything for the standard LBD to a t-shirt and jeans. It's not yet available for purchase online but once it is best believe it'll be cozy in my closet.

Life Lessons from Sex and the City 4:2

"When real people fall down in life, they get right back up and keep on walking..." - Carrie

In the 2nd episode of Season 4 Carrie found herself faced with the humiliating reality of falling down in the middle of the runway during a fashion show. She was literally fashion roadkill.

While I haven't experienced a catwalk tumble, I was recently told that the publishing company I've been working with the past 2+ years would not be renewing my contract. Luckily it was written into my contract (when I moved from Chicago and became a consultant) that either party could cancel at anytime, but there would have to be a 2 week notice.

In the last week I've been faced with having to find a job in a city that is known more for their college football team than media outlets. I keep coming back to Carrie's statement regarding how people fall down in life and get right back up and keep on walking. Much like that statement I've been using this employment glitch as an opportunity to remind myself how resourceful I can be and keep on walking.

Regardless of our circumstances life will always happen. It's how we deal with these things that will inevitably shape us into the people we'll become. When is the last time you've had to dust yourself off and keep on moving?

Fashion Fix: Nude OTK Boots

Derek J from the Real Housewives of Atlanta is never one to disappoint with his outfits. While they usually make me let out a belly laugh, or huge sigh, I can't deny the fact that I was feeling his boots on last night's Watch What Happens.

When asked where he purchased his boots I was surprised to hear they were H by Halston, a line exclusively available at Bakers. I actually saw these boots in the store a few months ago and passed them up. I thought the metal detailing on the heel cheapened them and the visible platform toe wasn't working for me. However, Derek J managed to work these boots and give them some life. I'm thinking about checking them out in the store again - - maybe even trying them on.

For all of those that are interested, the Liza boots feature a suede texture, round toe and metal detail on the heel. The holiday season is here and you'll be glad to know that at $169.95 they're relatively affordable. You may even be able snag them cheaper this weekend on Black Friday.

Life Lessons from Sex and the City 4:1

While watching Season 4 Episode 1 of Sex and the City where Carrie turns 35 and finds herself alone at the restaurant and having to pay $70 for her own birthday cake, I was reminded of my own birthday this year - - what I'd like to call one of the worst birthdays ever!

Now, I'm not one to dwell on the past or drudge up negative things but this year I found myself turning 26 and without one of the most important people in my life - - my husband. He was deployed in Afghanistan and I was in Arizona trying to make the best of things. I don't know how it happened but all of my friends were either out of town, busy or flaked... let me clarify - - my Arizona friends lol.

Some of the ladies from a meetup group I had recently joined at the time came out to show me support which was greatly appreciated and a new girlfriend I had made came out too... but as I turned 26 I found myself surrounded by people that barely knew me and feeling more alone than ever before.

I'm an extreme person so I didn't handle the AZ birthday letdown too well. The next day I bought a ticket to Chicago so I could celebrate my birthday with my real friends. Like Carrie was able to salvage her 35th bday with a coffee shop visit with her girlfriends, my posse made sure I had a good time in Chicago.

This year's birthday definitely put into perspective my friendships and the things that matter most to me. I don't want to sound cold, but the experience put up a bit of a "birthday wall" in my soul causing me to never put myself in a position to be let down on my special day again... ever lol.

Have you ever had your friends flake on your birthday?

Newly Nesting: Dueling Temps

There's nothing I enjoy more than the feel of steaming hot water pouring down my skin in the shower. Now that my husband and I are newly nesting he so sweetly brought to my attention that my hot temps are always scorching his skin.

While he prefers his water warm (lukewarm in my opinion) nothing drains my life force faster than dull water at shower time. Until we get a lavish shower with 2 heads (swap the slate for carerra marble and add a bench and it's my dream shower - - see left) we're left doing the dueling temps shower shuffle.

How do you handle your shower routine with your significant other?

Forever21 comes to Columbia!

It may seem trivial or even borderline crazy, but I was starting to go through a serious case of Forever21 withdrawl. Just as I was beginning to write my blog about how depressed I was that there were no Forever21's in the entire state of South Carolina, God saw fit to shine a ray of hope down from the heavens. The local mall is scheduled to open the state's 1st Forever21 next year and I'll be the first person in line when it opens. It's still crazy to me that I live somewhere that doesn't have a Forever21, H&M, Sephora or IKEA... but in the next few months a permanent smile will be on my face!

Latest Obsession

My name is Ishea and I'm addicted... to Fruit Ninja!!!!

This game is the best thing since stilettos and lip gloss. I don't own an iPhone but I'm always grabbing my husbands whenever I can to play this little gem of a game. His poison of choice is "Phase 10", a card game that I don't care much for...

What iPhone apps are you hooked on?

Curious Cat

From my cat trying to get in the toilet, the shower, and even finding his way into a Dos Equis box, I'm quickly learning that cats live up to their curious reputation and will get into anything and everything. Smudge is always up to something.

New kid on the Jewerly Block

One of my favorite bloggers, The Moptop Maven, just opened up her online jewelry store, Frank & Myrrh Handcrafted Jewelry + Adornments.

I'm a sucker for great accessories and always on the hunt for a way to make my outfits pop. Her designs are right up my alley - - tons of gold, color, and ethnic hints. The prices are in the $30 range and an affordable way to add some life to your wardrobe this holiday season.

Two of my favorite pieces so far:

1. Pangaea: Pink & Light Green earrings - $35

2. Axum Bamboo Crescent Earrings - $35

Our family is growing...

Growing up in a family full of dogs (Chows, German Shepherds, and Pits) I never considered myself a cat person, but last night my husband and I fell in love with this cuddly cutie and wanted to give him a great home. His name is Smudge and he's a 3 month old Russian Blue.

To my surprise this breed is amazing for folks that have cat allergies (like me) so I was excited to be able to have a cat sans all the allergic reactions. Also, this is nothing new to cat lovers out there, but for someone that was accustomed to dogs it came as quite a shock to watch a cat pretty much take care of itself. You mean I don't have to throw on boots and a coat in the dead of winter to take it out for a walk??? Sign me up!!! Cats are growing on me more and more by the day.

Time to Decorate

My husband and I finished up our 2000 mile move yesterday and I must say it feels great to be home! We've got most of the furniture for our living room and bedroom handled so the next thing for me to tackle is my office space.

For quite some time I've been obsessed with the West Elm Parson's desk in polished white but the $314 price tag kept me away.

While browsing Overstock I found this awesome look-a-like desk for $185.99 and I think I'll be buying this one.

If we were furnishing our house I'd bite the bullet and make the investment with the West Elm version, but since we're living in this apartment for the next 2 years I don't want to spend too much money on furniture we may or may not take back to AZ with us.
