Using @Flor Carpet Squares to Warm up our Loft

The idea of living in an industrial loft space with concrete floors seems cool, in theory... but once you actually get into the space you quickly realize how cold and impractical concrete floors can be for everyday life.

In an attempt to warm up our loft and ground the space, we decided to invest in Flor Carpet Squares. I can't remember the exact name of the pattern we chose (I think it was Full Bloom in Pearl - $18/square), but it was a great option!

We went into the showroom located in downtown Seattle, and were helped by the lovely store manager, Shelly. She went over all of the options with us and gave us samples to play around with at home. After taking a few weeks to decide, we made our final choices, ordered the squares, and they were delivered to our place within 5-7 business days! Once the squares were delivered, we were able to place the mats and adhere everything together within an hour.

We ordered 20 squares in total, but instead of doing a 4x5 pattern, we opted for a 3x6 pattern, which worked better for the space. Do your measurements at home for the square footage of space you'll be needing, but know that the store has its own conversion because 4 ft doesn't = 4 squares.

Anyways, consider me a happy customer! We'll be ordering some more for our upstairs to add some color to the space. I actually wish I would've bought some Flor Carpet Squares for my studio apartment in Chicago... that would've been so dope... Ahh, should've would've could've lol...

Did Pauletta Washington have Plastic Surgery?

The pressure to stay looking young in Hollywood is huge.. but there is also pressure for the spouse of any Hollywood A-Lister to look the part. When I recently saw a picture of Denzel and his wife of 30 years, Pauletta Washington, on theybf.com I thought to myself... wait, that can't be here.

Pauletta was looking SNATCHED to the heavens. It's like she went away and got some top notch quality work done. My girlfriend said she looked like she was working out and had new hair, makeup, and clothes... but I'm convinced some very tasteful face work was done.

Whatever she did, Mrs. Washington is looking like the revamped, youthful vixen on the arm of her leading man. I'm not mad at it.

What do you think?

Why are some people so awkward in Public Bathrooms?

Now that I'm back working in a large office environment, namely one that has a bathroom with more than 1 stall... I'm once again experiencing the funny moments that come along with Corporate life.

This week: The extreme awkwardness of some people in the bathroom!

Thick Neck Thursday: George Hill (via @YaBoiG_Hill)

I haven't featured a Thick Neck Thursday in months, mainly due to feeling uninspired after allowing my crush on The Rock to run its course. Nevertheless, I was virtually wandering around Instagram today and stumbled across this guy: George Hill.

I have no clue what this dude does aside from being great on social media. From what my short attention span could ascertain, he lives in Chicago, has a cute girlfriend, a nice lining, and muscles for days! Seeing as how this is Thick Neck Thursday, who better than George Hill to breathe some fresh, 'regular guy' Thick Neck air back into our Thursdays.

There are so many social media "stars" nowadays, it's hard to know if someone is actually doing something, or just posting tons of pics with minimal clothes... but he has over 13k Instagram followers, so I'm assuming people know who he is. I might just be late on this one lol...

I feel like the celebrity Thick Neck pool has dried up a bit, so I'll be scouring social media for regular guys.

Please feel free to email me any submissions to: sixtwentysevenblog@hotmail.com. Put "Thick Neck" in the subject line.

Connect with George on Twitter or Instagram!

Why do we spend so much money in Target?

It happened to me. I went to Target over the weekend to make a return on one of those fancy eco-friendly light bulbs... and walked out of there having dropped another $77. Yes, you read that correctly. I went in to make a RETURN. That means I was going to return something and get money back - - walk out of there with cash in hand... BUT I went in, made the return and in turn donated another $77 to the cause.

I am still trying to wrap my brain around Target's marketing scheme and how they manage to suck each of us in. I mean, I know I'm not alone in having these struggles. Target is like this magical place where anything and everything you want, need, and just gotta have exists under one roof.

Yes, I went in to return a light bulb... but dammit, I'd been dying to make some peanut butter cookies and I totally needed to grab those peanut butter candies... and why yes... I did need a random bottle of red wine, and some new lace thongs... and shit, while I was at it, I grabbed some tooth paste, an air freshener... and well, the list goes on and on! Oh, Target... you little temptress...

So, when's the last time Target got you for your coins?

The Best Taylor Swift Shirt (via @badkidsclothing)

Whenever folks start dragging celebs like Kim Kardashian through the online mud regarding their colorful dating history, I always think of singer Taylor Swift and how she's managed to run through quite the line up of guys without getting a bad rep. Granted, this doesn't mean she's bedding every guy she's dated... but she's a serial dater whose life force has quite a few names etched into it.

My girlfriend posted this shirt on Facebook, created by her roommate at Bad Kids Clothing, and I had to share! I mean... this is pretty genius.

Head over to Bad Kids Clothing to grab your tank which retails for $19.99 (click here).

Dustin Hoffman speaks on role in Tootsie

I was watching the news the other day and saw a video with Dustin Hoffman and it struck a chord with me. It's only 3 mins and worth taking a look  - - but Hoffman explains his approach to playing a female character in the movie "Tootsie" and how he had an epiphany during the film:

The first time Hoffman saw himself in the mirror in full makeup as his character Dorothy Michaels, he says, he was surprised.

"I was shocked that I wasn't more attractive," he admits. "I said, 'Now you have me looking like a woman, now make me beautiful.' I thought I should be beautiful if I was going to be a woman. I would want to be as beautiful as possible."
When the makeup team assured him that there was nothing else they could do to make him more "beautiful," Hoffman says he had an "epiphany" that shook him.

"It was at that moment I had an epiphany, and I went home and started crying," he says in the AFI interview, fighting back tears as he recounts his realization. "Talking to my wife, I said, 'I have to make this picture,' and she said, 'Why?' And I said, 'Because I think I am an interesting woman when I look at myself on screen. And I know that if I met myself at a party, I would never talk to that character because she doesn't fulfill physically the demands that we're brought up to think women have to have in order to ask them out.'"

"She says, 'What are you saying?'" he continues. "And I said, 'There's too many interesting woman I have … not had the experience to know in this life because I have been brainwashed.'" - US Magazine

'The Real' Talk Show (via @TheRealDaytime)

The voice for 20/30-somethings in the world of daytime talk is missing and The Real is setting out to fix that. Tamar Braxton, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai (longtime friend in my head lol), and Adrienne Bailon are coming together to dish on relationships, fashion, beauty, and the latest headlines each day.

As someone who enjoyed a show like The View for a while, I can't express how excited I am for this FRESH and long overdue breath of life force essence to infiltrate the stagnate world of daytime talk. Aside from Wendy Williams, there isn't really anyone on television telling it like it is and relating to the younger demographic. These 5 women are diverse, engaging, and opinionated... I can't wait to join them each day.

The show premieres next Monday, July 15th on select Fox stations. Please see below for the schedule.

You can also follow the ladies on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for daily videos.

BET Experience: Couples Revealed

Most people know Necole Bitchie, the gossip blogger, but I'm actually a huge fan of her personal blog, I Am Necole. She recently posted this video from the BET Experience with couples Salim & Mara Brock Akil, and Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker.

This video is such a refreshing, candid discussion on relationships... and not just dating, but long term relationships. Salim and Mara Brock Akil have been married for 14 years with 2 kids, while Boris and Nicole have been married for 8 years and also have 2 kids.

Even if you don't have time to watch the video, I'd suggest playing it in the background while you work. Too often couples, especially in Hollywood, aren't honest or transparent about the real things that happen in relationships... even in our everyday friendships, we can put up some high walls and not have candid discussions.

I think this dialogue is awesome!

Mary Hair Braiding in Houston, Texas is a FAKE

It was just brought to my attention that Mariama Diop, owner of Mary Hair Braiding and this other Facebook Page in Houston, Texas is using my image on their Facebook page and passing it off as work they did (reference above image).

I know that a lot of hair braiders use generic images online to give examples of hair styles, but using my image without permission AND passing it off as work that you did? That's beyond wrong... This chick is on her Facebook page telling people which type of hair she used for my twists... *crickets*

For the record, Nana based out of Chicago, IL is the person responsible for my twists. I've blogged about it and filmed YouTube videos showing her work. Nana even asked permission to use my image on her business cards, which I was more than happy to oblige because she's a sweetheart and it was ACTUAL WORK SHE DID!

I am in NO WAY affiliated with Mary Hair Braiding in Houston, Texas and have already taken the steps to file an intellectual property violation with Facebook.

To the lovely lady that sent me the Facebook message this morning letting me know about this, thank you so much! If anyone else sees my images floating around online with folks blatantly lying about the work, etc... please let me know! I'm going to start putting that annoying watermark on my images moving forward.

In the comments you can see her saying she will start adding a watermark to protect her pictures... fucking FAKE!!!

'The Butler' Movie Trailer

"The Butler" (the latest movie from Director Lee Daniels) is slated to be released in theaters August 16th, and I'm so exited! This is the first non-action movie I've been looking forward to seeing in quite some time and the cast looks stellar.

Something about watching the trailer makes my eyes well up with tears. I don't know if it's seeing his history of working on a cotton field which my family did in Mississippi, or the gentle reminder of how much we have been through as African-Americans in the US. I mean, we just are never really taught our history and we so often don't take the initiative to learn it ourselves. I sometimes struggle with enjoying the mind-numbing topics on social media like celebrity gossip, twerk videos, etc... but then remembering how easily we can be set back as a people. *le sigh* I could seriously go on and on about my views on this...

Anyways, check out the trailer and let me know how you feel? Will you be seeing "The Butler" when it comes out next month?

"And Baby, it's Amazing I'm in this Maze with you....

.... I just can't crack your code..."

Sing it JT!!! I love the way Justin Timberlake is crooning his heart out on Jay-Z's latest track "Holy Grail"... it's just beyond dope to me! I can't wait to listen to the entire album and see if it's worth buying or just buying a few tracks I like.

My boyfriend has a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I was begging him to download the app for the album, but he doesn't really fuck with Jay-Z so that was a fail lol... For anyone that already has the album, what's your verdict?

Making our House a Home (Part II)

Oh, the joys of living in corporate housing!! I'm starting to get a little stir crazy looking at the same walls all day, luckily one wall is full of windows and a nice patio view of Lake Union. So, while I do miss having more than 1 suitcase full of clothes/shoes to choose from, I get to see gorgeous lake views and watch kayaks, yachts, and boat planes all day.

As our move-in date draws closer, we've kicked up our furniture search. So far we've been able to find many beautiful things... but we are quickly realizing that unique, quality pieces can easily break the bank. And let me tell you... my boyfriend has some expensive taste! Oooh-wee....

I blame fellow blogger and real-life friend (basically like a big sister to me) Sexy and the Chi for introducing me to Restoration Hardware... and thus causing me to introduce the brand to my boyfriend. I feel like everything in their store is speaking to his inner life force. Locally, we have fallen in love with the pieces carried in Henredon & Schoener (located in Bellevue, WA). Honestly, that store is real life design porn! We both find ourselves being able to stay in there for hours... but the prices are STEEP, so we're always brought to a quick reality check.

Below is a little mash up of some of our favorites pieces so far...
