Ke$ha's Reality Show on MTV

Yesterday I stumbled across a clip from a reality show singer Ke$ha has on MTV! To my surprise it was actually entertaining... and not just because I dig her music, but she's pretty down to Earth and relatable. All I really knew about her before the show was that she liked looking "dirty" and a while back her and T-Pain had that weird connection, otherwise Ke$ha was just another pop singer.

After 2 episodes, I know her brother is a film maker who set out to document her first headlining tour, her mom looks like a ball of fun, and she gets into the same crazy shenanigans on tour any of us would do in real life!

Check out the clip below to get a taste of what her show has to offer. It airs Tuesdays @ 11/10p CST on MTV. Set your DVR or catch up online.

Taking a break...

While I was visiting Chicago something dawned on me - - I went 11 days without watching ANY reality TV shows. In fact, I only watched one show during those 11 days - - Beyonce's CNN interview with Piers Morgan. (Sidebar: I really enjoyed the interview and can't remember the last time I saw her showing so much personality)

During that much needed break I realized how nice it was to be out living life and not just watching folks do stuff on the tube. When I got home and settled in a bit I grabbed the remote and started making my way through the mess that was my DVR. SO many shows were in there for me to watch and it was slightly daunting being faced with the fact that I had fallen about 2 episodes behind on many of my favs. Halfway through watching The Real Housewives of New York I decided to do something drastic - - I just started deleting all of my shows!!! Yes, me -- the self-admitted reality TV junkie was going to just go cold turkey and give up 95% of the crap I watched.

Maybe I'm still on a "Chicago high," but being a zombie in front of the TV for countless hours during the week isn't appealing to me. I want to be active and out living life - - even if I'm in SC lol. I could be doing SO many other things with my time besides watching grown woman make fools out of themselves for a reality check.

After my super clean sweeping session the only reality shows that were left unscathed were: Keeping up with the Kardashians and Celebrity Ghost Stories. It's funny because they really are my two favorite shows and satisfy my craving for celebrity and paranormal lol.

Reality Check: Braxton Family Values

As a result of my husband and I downsizing from 2 DVRs to just 1, I had to give up a few reality shows. Braxton Family Values was among the many shows that I big adieu to, however, I was recently able to catch a marathon and I'm kind of a fan.

Last night I watched the season 1 reunion and I can definitely say I'm looking forward to season 2. Even with her obnoxiously loud mouth and borderline ghetto personality, Tamar is the star of the show. I have a soft spot for the baby of the family. I love the family dynamic the show captures and feel like things are pretty authentic.

When I was watching the finale I mentioned to my husband that this show made me want sisters. He quickly asked why because all of the girls seemed "annoying" on the show. I had to remind him that he though I was annoying sometimes lol... women are just annoying - - can't get around it. We all have our moments. I have friends that feel like sisters, but this show makes me long for biological sisters. I wonder what my life would be like with a built-in friend. My mother comes from a super large family (15 kids) and has a grip of sisters so I can attest to the theatrics having a lot of people around can cause, still I can now blame this show (along with the Kardashians) for making me a tad bit jealous I don't have any sisters.

Who else watched this season? What did you like most?

Reality Check: Basketball Wives Season 3

It doesn't premiere until Monday night, but VH1 released the first full episode of season 3 of Basketball Wives. I must admit that I haven't watched every episode of this show, but I follow it enough to know what's going on. I had some free time Saturday so I watched the season opener and it's definitely more of the same. Viewers that love the drama will get a hefty dose as all the same players are returning for another catty season in Miami. Meeka, an actual NBA wife, is the newest addition to the cast and seems like she'll try hard to find her place in the drama.

During the premiere Evelyn touched on the fact that her stuff with Tami's husband happened 13 years ago when she was 22 yo. I can't speak for anyone else, but if I was held accountable for some of the craziness I did at 22 when I was 35 it'd be a slight mess. I totally side with Tami regarding the messy way the news came out, but a 35 yo woman is usually NOTHING like her 22 yo self... usually... HOPEFULLY! lol... I think Evelyn and Tami would make a great duo if their friendship could blossom so we shall see.

As for the other ladies - - Jennifer is spreading her wings after the divorce, Shaunie is still the queen bee, and Ashely/Susie/Royce are still being random.

Did you watch the premiere? Do you plan on watching this season?

Reality Check: The Fabulous Beekman Boys

What do the former VP of Martha Stewart Living, a drag queen turned ad exec and New York Times bestselling author, a farm in upstate New York, a few quirky neighbors, goats, pigs and a llama all have in common?

They're all part of my favorite reality show, The Fabulous Beekman Boys!

Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Dr. Brent Ridge are a couple of city boys trying their hand at the "simple life". They bought a farm and are tackling life, love, barnyard animals and soap as they journey from life in NYC to Beekman Farm.

I love the relationship these two guys have. Brent is the overly anal, obsessive compulsive, neat freak, perfectionist... and Josh is the calming voice of reason (and comedic insight). This show is a breath of fresh air in the world of reality tv couples.

Episodes air Wednesday @ 9/8c on Planet Green.

Reality Check: Tiny & Toya

Let me be the first to say I instantly did not like this show. I wrote it off after the first preview and thought it was a joke BET was even airing it. Saturday afternoon I found myself enjoying a relaxing day in the house and with nothing to do. My TV somehow made its way to BET and I caught the season 1 marathon of Tiny & Toya.

Tonight is the Season 2 premiere of Tiny & Toya and cameras will continue to follow the duo as they tackle family life, career and making a name for themselves in Atlanta, GA. I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm excited to watch season 2 of this show. Once I got past their accents, I was able to really delve into their storylines and believe it or not, they really do touch me. *crickets* Yes, I know... it's crazy for me to be "Team Tiny & Toya" because I had NOTHING but negative things to say. I'm glad I gave this show a 2nd chance because it really is good.

New episodes air Tuesday nights on BET 9p central time.

Basketball Wives?

Where do I even begin with the "Basketball Wives" reality show that premiered on VH1 tonight? This show is a joke. It’s called “Basketball Wives” but really the only thing these women have in common is that they’ve slept with NBA players. I think the show consists of 1 wife (headed for divorce), a divorcee, a fiancee, an ex-girlfriend and a former NBA dancer/baby mama. This show is a low brow version of the Bravo “housewives” series and a joke in my opinion. If you want to have a show about Basketball Wives, find ACTUAL wives.

It's somewhat surprising that VH1 picked up this show, but judging by the other lineup of Sunday night reality shows I probably shouldn't be. Wedged between Brandy and Ray J trying to extend their relevance and Chili and her baby hair looking for a man, the show airs Monday nights at 10p. If you have nothing better to do take a look and judge for yourself... but me? I don't have room for another reality show featuring grown ass women perpetrating a fake friendships and acting catty. I understand they all want their 15 mins of fame, but they all are really too grown for these reindeer games.

I'll pass on this one.

Reality Check: LisaRaye

Let it be known that LisaRaye only wears white. Don't believe it? One only needs to sneak a peak inside her closet and you'll be greeted with what appears to be an all access pass into a lifelong Diddy white party. I'm all about brown skin in white, but wearing white 24/7 borders on excessive. A white wardrobe, white Rolls Royce and white diamonds are the norm in the world of LisaRaye.

In her new reality show, LisaRaye: The Real McCoy, we are shown a side of LisaRaye that few have seen. Her life as a mother, post divorce battle and daily grind to get back into the limelight are a few of the things we get to see.

I like LisaRaye. She reminds me of a really pretty, high maintenance ghetto chick that you could be friends with. She's down to earth and real, but a bit self absorbed. Is she a gold digger or just a women that knows her worth and goes for what she feel she deserves? I haven't figured it out yet but I'll keep watching. She's grabbed my attention and this is another reality show that has made the cut.

On a side note, I must say that I really like her relationship with her daughter Kai. She comes across as an overly affectionate, loving mother. I also love that her daughter works at Bath and Body Works. I'm all about kids having jobs and not getting handouts from their parents.

New episodes air Thursday nights @9p on TVOne

Reality Check: Christian Siriano (Having a Moment)

Everyone's favorite Project Runway winner is back on Bravo with his own reality show. In Christian Siriano: Having a Moment viewers are given a behind the scenes look at Siriano's daily life as he builds his mini fashion empire. Airing Monday nights on BravoTV, the first episode showed Siriano as he (along with his wonderful staff, family and boyfriend) tackled the chaos of NY Fashion Week and his 3rd runway show.

I miss Project Runway being on BravoTV (I just couldn't get with Lifetime) and I'm a fan of Siriano so this show works for me. Any fashion addict or lover of reality TV will be able to appreciate this new show. I can't say that it's something I'll rush home to see, but it does make it on my "must dvr" list.

Check out a preview below:

Reality Check: Paranormal Court

"When people really come to a place where they know that a soul has truly left the body, and still exists and is communicating, it will change all sorrow into tremendous hope. It doesn't exist in my imagination. It isn't wishful thinking - - it is real... and that's a wonderful gift to give somebody." - Robert Hansen

Let me start off by saying that I am a believer in the spirit world. I believe in ghosts, energy, people passing on and crossing over... all that stuff. I'm also a fan of dramatic reality tv shows so you can imagine my excitement when TLC premiered "Paranormal Court" on Saturday night. It's like the Ghost Whisperer on crack!!! Truly my dream TV show.

The hour-long show follows psychic medium Robert Hansen as he helps families solve disputes via speaking to their loved ones that have crossed over. Despite having "court" in the show name, please don't get the visual of "People's Court" in your mind. The families meet with Hansen in his home and he has no prior knowledge of their cases. The first episode featured 3 cases and I must say their stories all tugged at my heart strings. I think I've found the perfect "ghost" show that I can watch without getting beyond paranoid (I wish I could still watch Psychic Kids but I was getting a little bugged out lol...)

Whether you believe in this stuff or not, this show is really entertaining. It airs Saturday nights on TLC so if you find yourself in on a Saturday night and looking for something new to watch, this should be on your radar.

Reality Check: Kendra

Sunday night the new season of Kendra premiered on E! Everyone knows Kendra as part of the original Girl's Next Door Trio (including Bridget and Holly) and watched her for numerous seasons during her stay at the Playboy Mansion. In season 2 of her show, the cameras continue to follow Kendra and her husband (NFL baller Hank Baskett) as they enjoy the birth of their son and life as newlyweds.

The first 2 episodes showed Kendra and Hank's search for a babysitter and quest to reignite their romantic flame with a date night. Another topic that was tackled was Kendra's insecurity with her post baby body. Running with a crew of playboy bunnies wasn't an issue for Kendra's size 23 pre baby body... but she found herself struggling to feel sexy and confident when 3 of her friends came into town to visit.

What I really liked about this storyline was how reassuring and loving Hank was. Never once did he make Kendra feel bad about her body (which some men can do) and I loved that. He was the constant supportive, loving, doting husband. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing but it can wreak havoc on the female body. I think it's definitely a sacrifice to carry your baby and risk having all the "battle wounds" to prove it. Kendra wasn't scared to show her stretch marks or stomach that was leftover after having the baby and I found it refreshing. I mean, she JUST HAD A BABY!!! It took 9 months to put the weight on and it doesn't come off over night.

In the media we are always bombarded with ways to "lose the baby weight" in like a month and the pressure women can face is ridiculous. You want to get your body back in shape, not only for yourself, but you want your spouse to find you attractive again. Not that they don't (many men LOVE the pregnancy body) but as a woman you want to feel, as Kendra said, like you'd wanna "fuck yourself" lol... and it's true.

My question is for mothers out there, how did you handle (or how are you handling) your pregnancy body? What role did your spouse play in helping you thru the experience?

Reality Check: The Price of Beauty

Monday night was the premiere episode of Jessica Simpson's "The Price of Beauty" on VH1. I've been a fan of Jessica since her newlywed days and always loved her bubbly and often ditsy personality. Equipped with best friends CaCee Cobb and hairstylist Ken Paves, Jessica first heads to Thailand in search of what the 'price of beauty is'.

In Bangkok Simpson and friends enjoy a Thai massage, time with Buddhist monks and meet with Sonia (host of Thailand's Next Top Model and their official beauty ambassador). She takes them for a tour around a popular market where they meet with Panya, a woman whose skin was destroyed by bleaching cream. In Bangkok lighter is better and many women go to extreme lengths to bleach their skin.

After their adventures in Bangkok, they headed to Chiang Rai Provence to visit the Karen Hill tribe. Known for the gold rings they wear around their neck, the Karen (pronounced kah-rin) Hill tribe believe an elongated neck is a sign of beauty and wealth, and will attract a better husband. The rings can weigh up to 20 lbs and the women never take them off. The rings did look very beautiful but there was something a little creepy about them having such elongated necks. I mean, I don't think I could wear that for the rest of my life.
Now, I don't think the show is that bad or corny... but I really don't see this being a "must see" thing. There are entirely TOO many things to watch on a Monday night (Gossip Girl, Kelly on Earth, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, etc) so this may be something to catch on a rerun.

Reality Check: Model City

I'm always on the hunt for new reality shows and I'm glad to report that I found one worth watching. Model City chronicles the ups and downs of 6 male models at Red Model Management. It's refreshing to see the fashion industry thru the eyes of a male model (especially black male models) and unlike other shows out there these guys are legitimate models booking major gigs. The show airs on Centric TV (owned by BET) Thursday nights. If you're like me and had no clue what Centric TV was, click here to find out if you get it in your area.

My favorite model is Ibrahim (pictured left, center). Not only is he a vet in the game, but he has a gracious, humble nature about him that I like. My other standout is Salieu (pictured left) who is a newbie but quickly learning the ropes.

I've been anti-BET for quite some time but it's nice to see them stepping up their game. This show is entertaining and the quality is nice. I've had issues with other BET reality shows being slightly bootleg with their production quality, but this is definitely doing big things.

The season premiered Feb. 18th so I'm definitely late. Has anyone been watching?

Reality Check: ANTM

So, I'm sitting here watching yet another season of ANTM. *sigh* I know, I know... While I think Tyra is extremely corny (though I respect her business hustle) this show has pretty much been like a broken record since season 3. I don't care what anyone says, Season 3 cannot be topped!!! Eva the Diva, Yaya, Tocarra... they were all my favs... nobody can touch Eva tho... but I digress....

So, when I was setting up my dvr to record all my favorite shows I pressed the info button and saw that tonight's premiere episode featured the makeovers, my favorite thing!!! I love seeing the transformations (and who breaks down)...

The episode was pretty much more of the same but I can say that my standout favorite is Naduah. She's striking...

My dvr somehow stopped recording the remainder of the episode so I have no clue how things ended... but this season should be decent enough. I can't say I'll watch the episodes when they air... but I'll probably record them. Who else watched?

Reality Check

To say that I've been slacking on my blogging would be a gross understatement. I don't know why but I guess I've just been consumed in my life... but I'm always able to make time for my favorite reality shows. Last night was the finale of Real Housewives of Orange County. Here are my random thoughts...

1) Lynne and her husband need to get their parenting skills in order. Why are your teenage kids showing up to an event, with grown people, wasted off their asses? This is ridiculous... and is it just me or does Lynne constantly speak as if she's just popped 1 too many pills! Seriously... she's either in her own world or she's popping something extra. I could forgive the slurred words when she just had her face done... but it should be under control. Actually, I think she's still using something from that prescription. I mean, her life totally fell apart and her husband acts delusional and she's trying to be bff's with her daughters... *le sigh* That whole situation is out of control.

2) Gretchen and Slade... where to begin. Well, Slade has been running thru housewives but I hope what he and Gretchen have is genuine but I can't help but notice how Gretchen still rocks the engagement ring she got from Jeff. I'm not sure what the proper engagement ring etiquette is - - but I totally get wearing your ring while you're mourning the loss of your fiance after he passes... but when you're 8 months into your new relationship and seriously throwing around marriage?? I don't know... but I'd say take the ring off.

3) Tamra - Poor Tamra. Her husband is a control freak and poor Simon... his wife signed up for a reality show and a few years into it flipped the script on him. One thing I've learned is to keep your relationship between the two of you and not drag any and everyone with a willing ear into it. If you need to vent, do it with someone that is neutral and not biased. They're in the process of going thru their divorce now so maybe more will come out during the reunion show next week.

4) Alexis - I don't get Alexis. I don't really enjoy her story line and think she's getting thrown into the mix too late in the game. She's the new kid on the block and she comes into the show a few season down the road, toting her bibles and her boobs... and all her housekeepers. She's semi wack to me.

5) Vicki - I love Vicki. With all her "woo hoo's" and talk about work. I love that her marriage is back on track... that she has 2 well adjusted kids. I just like that she's on top of her shit. She's a solid person on my list and her vow renewal in Turks and Caicos was gorgeous.

So, who else was watching?

Kell on Earth

I'm so freaking excited that Bravo TV decided to give everyone's favorite boss from hell, Kelly Cutrone, her own show. Not only did she manage to keep the girls of "The Hills" and "The City" in check, but she stole the show in the process. Kell on Earth follows Kelly Cutrone and her life as the head of high end fashion pr company, People's Revolution. Business woman by day and single mom by night, this show will take a deeper look into the inner workings of Kelly's life.

Here's a juicy sneak peek of the show...

I'm definitely going to go hard for this show because Kelly Cutrone is one of the FEW people in hollywood and reality tv that keeps in real. Actually, I'd love to see her on Wendy Williams show... that'd be a great interview... 2 of the loudest, bluntest ladies going head to head.

Reailty Wrap-up

Launch my Line (BravoTV) - Like Project Runway minus the designers having any actual design experience... nor do they know how to sew... but 10 professionals are paired with "real" designers and able to articulate to them the vision they have for their line. Umm... I wish that Bravo hadn't lost Project Runway to Lifetime because it's sad watching them cling on for dear life and put out knockoff after knockoff.

Real Housewives of Orange County (BravoTV) - With each episode I'm starting to like Gretchen more and more and Tamra less and less. I feel like Tamra is a grown woman that's caught up in petty drama (aren't they all in the Housewives series) and really starting to look a bit aged in the face. I think she should replace some gossiping with resting those tired looking eyes... or maybe she could focus on her marriage and finding a job so they don't lose their house. Vicki setting her daughter up with some random guy was, well... random.. but I've always liked her daughter Brianne and thought she provided some much needed down to earth energy to the otherwise pretentious OC scene. On another note, I can't wait for them to take things back to NY. I love Bethanny and Jill!

Shore House (MTV) - Okay, the commercials almost managed to pull me in but at the end of the day all the "fist pumping" would be completely lost on me. I decided to pass on this show and really think it's just another version of Real World, but with fighting being acceptable.

For Rent (HGTV) - Anyone that is a renter should check out this show which airs on Sunday nights on HGTV. Real estate agent and designer Jodi Gilmour, helps people navigate the sometimes tricky rental market. I always enjoy seeing how she's able to transform spaces with her designs. Renters (and homeowners) can get great ideas from this show.

The Hills (MTV) - The season finale aired and I decided that Kristin in cool, but I like Lauren Conrad a bit more. I doubt I'll watch the next season of this show. The whole Kristin/Brody/Justin Bobby love triangle that they're trying to create is so painfully orchestrated that it's not even entertaining. Not to mention I still scratch my head at how "Stacy the bartender" got a legitimate role on the show... I can't believe these people are getting paid up to $90k per episode!

The City (MTV) - Along with The Hills, The City also aired their season finale this week. I liked the switch from DVF to Elle magazine for Olivia mainly because I love Elle magazine and enjoyed seeing some of the inner working... though Olivia seemed to always come off entitled and lacking any real understanding how what hard work was. Whitney was back at People's Revolution and I was thrilled because owner Kelly Cutrone is the highlight of the show for me. I love her personality and how she tells it like it is. I wish she was offered her own show.

Meet the Natives: USA (Travel Channel) - In this Travel Channel original, 5 tribesmen from the South Pacific island of Tanna are brought to the US to experience American culture and spread their message of peace and love. In the first two episodes they visited a ranch family in Montana as well as a WASP family in New York. I actually really enjoy this show and it makes me realize how much we as a country do have. I wouldn't trade it for life in Tanna, but it does make you appreciate things a bit more. This is a very heartwarming show that will make you laugh out loud.

Bad Girls Club (Oxygen) - After watching the first episode of Bad Girls Club, I quickly realized I was over the constant partying, binge drinking, shit talking and fighting in the club. It wasn't entertaining, it was sad. Why can't these women do better... and why did they throw a 26yo in the house with 21-22 yo's?? She sticks out like a sore thumb and it makes me scratch my head. While I don't expect much from a 21yo, when you're 26 you need to have your shit together. Getting thrown out of the club when you're almost 30 isn't a good look.

He got knocked the F*CK out...

I was watching MTV's "The Ruins" last night and witnessed the fight between Darrell and Brad. I actually like both of these guys and was surprised that they fought... definitely the result of drinking too much alcohol and being in closed quarters. Anyways, I was SHOCKED at the aftermath of the fight. I mean, Darrell probably hit Brad about 4 times tops... and when you see the end result... my GOD!!! I didn't think someone's face could swell up that fast!

His eye was insanely swollen! He looked like a freak of nature

Then the producers cleaned him up a bit for his exit interview

Darrell's face was spotless. Brad didn't manage to lay a finger on him
