Depending on the day of the week, I can run the emotional gamut of either being obsessed with my hair or threatening to cut it all off. I previously shared my struggle with my crummy, see-through ends, and the hope was to long term transition and avoid having to cut a ton of length off.
While I'm not one to hang onto damaged ends for the sake of having some length, I will admit that it's hard to pull the trigger and cut my hair. Mainly because I rock my hair curly 90% of the time, and even an inch shorter straight is 2 inches of length curly. (insert dramatic sigh)
So, over the weekend my ends lost the battle as I ventured into Vasuda Salon in downtown Seattle. After getting the best scalp massage of my life, my stylist Linda showed me the amount of hair she recommended having cut. It was about 1.5 inches and as I looked in the mirror my heart sank... just a little. I hadn't had my ends trimmed since early September, so the trim was long overdue. I decided to pull the trigger and get rid of the damaged ends, and instantly my hair felt so much better.
One of my hair goals for the year is to be more proactive about length retention. Thus, I'm going to get consistent trims (instead of every 4 months, I'll shoot for every 2-3 months), incorporate a few more protective styles (braids, twists, weaves), and do my best to leave the at-home heat alone.
