Plastic Surgery

The only person I knew to get a boob job (enhancement) was a former co-worker. She was a petite, bubbly blonde - single mother - determined to get her sexy back and no longer be compared to a boy. I always thought she was ridiculous wanting to get her breasts done...especially wanting to finance it. I wondered if she defaulted on a payment what would happen. Unlike a car, you can't really get your breasts repo'd. After a company outing to the lake and seeing her in a bikini top I soon realized what had been bugging her out for all these years...her chest was BEYOND flat... borderline non-existent! From that moment on I was one of her cheerleaders for her boob job! Nobody should have to look like that. She was out of work for a week and after she returned she was a new woman! Her boobs looked great and besides having to wear a sport's bra for a while, she recovered pretty quickly.

Today I was talking with a girlfriend about another friend going under the knife to help out where God had slacked off...however, this friend is black. Now, after living in Scottsdale, AZ for a few years I became numb to plastic surgery. It's standard to have your breasts done...no biggie. Hell, chicks even go as far as to get a Brazilian butt lift, multiple nose jobs, chin implants, cheek implants - - I even had a friend get her ears moved closer to her head. Plastic surgery is no big deal - - for white girls. Black culture tends to look down on plastic surgery. If you're getting gastric bypass to save your life or a breast reduction (as my mom and a cousin of mine got) that seems to be allowable...but getting boobs just because? A nose job? Many probably have thoughts race to someone like Michael Jackson that is unrecognizable...or like Vivica Foxx or Lil Kim. Those are the extreme cases of plastic surgery gone wrong. Their faces are over worked and a mess to me...though Vivica is the least extreme of the 3.

Anyways, it made me think about why our culture is so opposed to plastic surgery. I grew up with a very open, liberal mother. She told me that if I didn't like something it was no big deal to fix it...though she always told me I was "beautiful just the way I was" (like a good mother. lol.) I think that boobs are something that you either have or you don't. A nose is also one of those things that is either working for you or not...but women that get lipo when all they really need is a month in the gym...or a butt lift when squats, lunges and weight lifting will do the trick - - I think it's unnecessary. We are definitely a world of instant gratification and plastic surgery is yet another example of it.

Any thoughts?

I <3 Shoes

Unlike shopping for a bra or a pair of jeans (which can be daunting tasks) shoes always fit...there's no struggling to find your size, squeeze into them or feeling let down that they "make you look fat". Stilettos are my shoe of choice and I don't mind suffering for fashion. I've been coming across some cute shoes today and wanted to share...and might I add that I'm not one of those super secretive girls that when you ask where I got something from - lie, say it was a gift, or "I don't remember". I love getting a good deal and believe in sharing the wealth.

Guilty Pleausure TV

Bromance (Monday nights on MTV) - I had completely written off this show as more MTV foolery but after watching the first few episodes of Bromance I actually like it. It's an entertaining show that focuses on Brody Jenner's search for a "bro", the male version of a BFF. In tonight's episode I was shocked as I watched 4 of the castmates be brought to tears as they competed to win over Brody. Men don't usually cry...on tv...men that are under 25 really don't cry on tv. In addition to winning the grand prize of a friendship with Brody, the winner will also get to call a wonderful penthouse suite on the top of some bldg home. I'm sure there's a long string attached to this...not to mention the fact that these average 20-something guys could never afford this place. Who knows...maybe they'll be put on salary to be his friend! Oh yeah, I was wondering how this show won me over...the gay guy contestant! After the first day, or I guess halfway thru the first day...wait, maybe the 2nd...lol...he ended up eliminating himself because he said it "wasn't what he thought it'd be" and even went on to say that he "thought it'd be like 'The Hills'" Hilarious! I'm sure he just wanted to chill with LC and Lo. He was priceless...and his quote: Behind every hot girl is her gay best friend!

Moving on with more guilty pleasure tv shows...

Rock of Love: Tour Bus (VH1...not sure what night) - I'm actually watching this show as I type this. I stumbled upon it... not much else to choose from at midnight. It was a toss up between WE's "Rich Bride, Poor Bride" or History Channel's "Seven Signs of the Apocalypse". This isn't a show that I'd waste tivo space on, rush home to watch or even bother to figure out what day comes on...but if you're fumbling thru channels and find it take a look. Again, Brett Michaels is on a search for his number one groupie jump off. It's an entertaining show, kinda like watching the sloppy drunk chick at the club except you get to do it from the comfort of your own home. Already the chicks are binge drinking, making out, throwing up and even fighting! Gotta love VH1 and their great programming!

I'm starting to realize that my last few posts have all been about either movies or tv shows...nice to see reality tv sucking me back in. Oh yeah, "Daddy's Girls" premiered tonight! Ummm...I'll watch this show not because it's a "good" show but because I was a fan of "Run's House" and am already a part of their following. (not to mention they strategically placed it to air right after 'The City'). Vanessa and Angela are in LA and basically calling the hand-me-down apart of LC and friends home. They didn't do much this episode besides move-in, welcome their cousin to LA, eat out for dinner, exercise, eat out for breakfast...Typical LA stuff. Angela talked about being dumped by her ex-boyfriend (some guy named TK) and debating whether to throw a ring he gave her off the mountain or pawn it (happy to say she decided to keep and get the cash!). Wanting to see her step out of her comfort zone and MO of dating cute losers, she got set up on a blind date by her friend Alycia - - the guy seemed nice but take a look at the picture to the left. If you opened the door and that was staring back you, well, what would you say? She was a good sport and they went dancing. Did anyone else think her outfit was wack? It's like she was channeling 80s Madonna. Since when do you ever need to wear a huge pink bow, black leather jacket and string of pearls anywhere? It was kinda cute to watch her dad call them every 10 secs. I'm sure it's hard letting go. I'll continue to watch this show. Hell, it's right after "The City" so I'll get sucked in within the first few minutes before I have a chance to change the channel.

Speaking of "The City" did anyone catch tonight's episode? How in the hell was Whitney able to afford that apartment? Well, obviously she has her cash from all "The Hills" episodes, but damn! To be 23, living in New York, and lamping up in a bomb apartment! Must be nice. Her furniture was also really cute too. It inspires me to head to IKEA (though I lust over everything in Z Gallerie) and let loose! Also intriguing me were some of the fashions worn by the cast on the official shoot. These shoes were screaming my name (namely the pink ones). I'm glad to see the photographer shared my sentiments and captured a pic of them! Also, I fell in love with this dress worn by Erin. Where can I get that?

Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty...For tonight, we dine in hell!

Ahh, 300! I've been on a movie kick the last few days and this precious gem was on last night! I absolutely adore this time period in history...and the mouth watering bodies of the actors... simply icing on the cake! Gerard Butler as King Leonidas always keeps me on the edge of my seat with excitement! I found myself amazed by the fearlessness the Spartans displayed and could never imagine being so passionate about my country, a cause, anything...that I'd be ready to face certain death! They were raised to believe death on the battflefield was the greatest glory they could achieve in life...But I digress, back to their bodies! This entire movie makes my mouth water. Did these guys really look like this back in the day? God...whatever they were doing needs to be bottled up and sent out to the brothers in Chicago because I don't see anything like this nowadays.

One of my favorite scenes is when the Persian messenger comes to King Leonidas and asks for an offering of earth and water for Xerxes. Leonidas is so gangster in this scene...I love it!

TPS Reports, Missing staplers, and Bosses named Lumbergh

Anyone that has ever worked in a typical office, sat miserably in a cubicle or felt like that had 8 bosses telling them the same thing can appreciate the humor found in "Office Space". Not only is it one of my favorite movies, but I really believe it's a classic. You would have to have been living under a rock the last 10 years to have not seen this movie. It's literally on at least once a month on like TBS. Anyways, I've been in somewhat of a funk the last few days and this movie did the trick last night. I was letting out all types of belly laughs and nearly cried! If you're having a rough day check this movie out and you'll turn that frown upside down!

Countdown to the Crown

After returning home from an amazing workout (compliments of the step sculpt class @ LA Fitness) I plopped down on the couch to check out "Countdown to the Crown: Miss America". This TLC show focuses on the 52 Miss America contestants during the weeks leading up to the pageant which will be aired January 24th . Hosted by some random guy, "Countdown to the Crown" shows the women as they live on the Queen Mary ocean liner in Long Beach, CA and serves as a way to revamp and breathe life into what had become a typical, stuffy, borderline boring beauty pageant. Wait, I guess it's called a "scholarship competition" but let's keep it real - - if you're not cute, you're not gonna win.

*Funny thing about the ship they're calling home, I remember seeing it featured on one of those "most haunted" shows...

First impressions are extremely important and I can't say that I was impressed by any of the women...but a few did stand out for other reasons. Miss Georgia stood out on day 1 because of how shiny and bouncy her weave was...but that could only be on my radar because of my own desire to get my weave put it (Vegas in 2 weeks!!!!) Miss Missouri captivated me due to her awkward face. She's not ugly, not at all...but her face is, well - different. Miss Minnesota was black and that jumped out to me as she was representing Minnesota. Way to go...because when I think of Minnesota I think of snow bunnies. Miss Iowa was the most cookie cutter type to me. It's like you've seen her type recycled over and over again. I was definitely disappointed to see the lack of diversity represented for the various states. Since when does "blonde" and "brunette" count as real diversity?

If you ask me, the Miss USA competition is WAY more fun. They have their girls featured on a reality show airing on MTV (not TLC) and their girls are slightly more slutty, typically involved in some scandal and such a joy to watch! Who can forget the underage drinking / cocaine scandal with former 2006 Miss USA Tara Conner?Or the baffling answer of Miss Teen South Carolina Lauren Upton?

If you find yourself in on a Friday night over the next 2 weeks turn to TLC and catch the show. You can also go online and vote for your favorite contestant to have a spot in the top 15.
