What is labor day? It's safe to say that as long as I get a day off work, I don't care about the history of a holiday...but I was curious as to where "labor day" came from! I mean, if we can get a "labor day" can we put into effect a "daughter day" or maybe a "girlfriend day". The ever handy www.reference.com was able to provide me with some background info...
-Labor Day is typically the first Monday in September
-In was started by the Knights of Labor in 1882
-Created as a day off for the average working man
-Made a National holiday by the US Congress in 1894
-Symbolically celebrated as the "end of summer"
