Single Ladies: Season 2 Trailer
Last week I signed the petition to end "Basketball Wives" and I don't plan on watching anymore negative, female foolishness disguised as "reality tv". Out with the old and in with the new - - VH1 is back with the second season of "Single Ladies," an hour-long scripted drama I don't mind watching. I was sad at the departure of lead actress Stacey Dash, but just viewed the season 2 trailer and it looks like it'll be good. I'm all about supporting black actresses that are actually putting their skills to work.

Reality Check: Basketball Wives Season 3
It doesn't premiere until Monday night, but VH1 released the first full episode of season 3 of Basketball Wives. I must admit that I haven't watched every episode of this show, but I follow it enough to know what's going on. I had some free time Saturday so I watched the season opener and it's definitely more of the same. Viewers that love the drama will get a hefty dose as all the same players are returning for another catty season in Miami. Meeka, an actual NBA wife, is the newest addition to the cast and seems like she'll try hard to find her place in the drama.
During the premiere Evelyn touched on the fact that her stuff with Tami's husband happened 13 years ago when she was 22 yo. I can't speak for anyone else, but if I was held accountable for some of the craziness I did at 22 when I was 35 it'd be a slight mess. I totally side with Tami regarding the messy way the news came out, but a 35 yo woman is usually NOTHING like her 22 yo self... usually... HOPEFULLY! lol... I think Evelyn and Tami would make a great duo if their friendship could blossom so we shall see.
As for the other ladies - - Jennifer is spreading her wings after the divorce, Shaunie is still the queen bee, and Ashely/Susie/Royce are still being random.

Basketball Wives?

It's somewhat surprising that VH1 picked up this show, but judging by the other lineup of Sunday night reality shows I probably shouldn't be. Wedged between Brandy and Ray J trying to extend their relevance and Chili and her baby hair looking for a man, the show airs Monday nights at 10p. If you have nothing better to do take a look and judge for yourself... but me? I don't have room for another reality show featuring grown ass women perpetrating a fake friendships and acting catty. I understand they all want their 15 mins of fame, but they all are really too grown for these reindeer games.
I'll pass on this one.

Reality Check: The Price of Beauty
Monday night was the premiere episode of Jessica Simpson's "The Price of Beauty" on VH1. I've been a fan of Jessica since her newlywed days and always loved her bubbly and often ditsy personality. Equipped with best friends CaCee Cobb and hairstylist Ken Paves, Jessica first heads to Thailand in search of what the 'price of beauty is'.
In Bangkok Simpson and friends enjoy a Thai massage, time with Buddhist monks and meet with Sonia (host of Thailand's Next Top Model and their official beauty ambassador). She takes them for a tour around a popular market where they meet with Panya, a woman whose skin was destroyed by bleaching cream. In Bangkok lighter is better and many women go to extreme lengths to bleach their skin.
After their adventures in Bangkok, they headed to Chiang Rai Provence to visit the Karen Hill tribe. Known for the gold rings they wear around their neck, the Karen (pronounced kah-rin) Hill tribe believe an elongated neck is a sign of beauty and wealth, and will attract a better husband. The rings can weigh up to 20 lbs and the women never take them off. The rings did look very beautiful but there was something a little creepy about them having such elongated necks. I mean, I don't think I could wear that for the rest of my life.

Now, I don't think the show is that bad or corny... but I really don't see this being a "must see" thing. There are entirely TOO many things to watch on a Monday night (Gossip Girl, Kelly on Earth, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, etc) so this may be something to catch on a rerun.

Dangerously Unique?
Long gone are the days when shows like "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" ruled the airwaves. VH1 has pretty much taken over the dating show market with their "Love" shows. Last night was the reunion episode of "For the Love of Ray J". I, for one, was thrilled to see the ladies back on the stage (mainly Danger... my favorite of the season) and catch up on what everyone had been (or not been) doing since the show wrapped.
One thing that always intrigues me is the makeover most of the ladies undergo by the time the reunion show is taped. I believe this is due in part to them seeing themselves on TV and realizing that the look they rocked all season and swore was the business actually didn't look so hot.
Now, of all the weave-tastic, insanely big, prom hair gone wrong styles under the sun, Unique (Danielle Pastorino) chose to throw this wig in her hair. This goes down as the worst weave in the history of bad weaves. It looked awful. Repulsive. I actually think that her "crazy curls" natural look worked much better than this. It literally looked like they sat this 'do on top of her head... I'm actually quite sure that's EXACTLY what they did!!

One of my favorites of the season was Danger (Monica Leon). Despite going from "Crazy Sexy" to "Crazy Psycho" over the course of the show, I still was a Danger fan and wanted her to win (.... even if she "smashed the homies" lol...) If you were watching the reunion last night you can recall noticing the "fuck me" eyes her and Ray J were shooting one another when she came on the couch to be interviewed by La La. Oh yes, I know those eyes well and it's obvious that they're still gettin it crackin. I think that Danger is a cute girl and I was a fan of her wild curls (I could go w/o the face tat but for some reason it actually fits her). She busted out a new color/weave combo for the reunion show and kind of reminded me of Lil Kim. I don't think it looked bad but her original style was better to me.

The "mystery" of creepy Chicago Larry's true identity was revealed last night. I must say that I don't know what was creepier: his voice, sunglasses, or camera (was he planning on taking any pics). My girl told me that she saw him in Sound Bar last week snapping pics and handing out cards. She confirmed that he's just as creepy in person and did her best to avoid him.
As with all of the VH1 "Love" shows I'm sure there are 2 more seasons brewing for Ray J to findlust, sex, his next jumpoff love. Will you be watching?

Reality Wrap-Up
I must say that the most exciting thing on TV tonight was the preview for the next season of Making The Band which will begin airing again on Feb. 12th. I love how Diddy yelled into the camera that he wasn't letting anyone out of their contract. Priceless. This new season should be extremely entertaining and I'm anxious to see what happens with Danity Kane, Day26, and Donnie (I wonder if he'll get dropped from the label...did anyone buy his album?)
The City - Tonight's episode was extremely disappointing for me. It started out with Olivia and her Nevan talking about how he needs to get a "real 9 to 5" and a place to stay - as he has been crashing on couches. Ever the great cousin, she tells him that he can stay as long as he NEVER has girls over unless she approves ... and the most important - no girls wearing her clothes.

Whitney is still rocking that braid/twist thing - ugh.
Adam/Allie are introduced to us and I must say that their romance/storyline is really not that interesting to me. They're like this bland, model couple...very boring.
What else happened this episode ... Allie went out of town for a Diesel photo shoot and while the cat's away the mice will play. In this case, Adam, being the typical guy, goes out with the boys for a guy's night out which turns into an 7am party back at his place with some chicks they met at the club. Of course he supposedly makes out with 1 of the girls and this info conveniently gets back to Whitney which goes to Jay and from Jay to Adam. When he picks up Allie from the airport he tells her. (Gosh, even recounting what happened this episode is making me yawn).
I wish this episode would have focused more on Whitney or Olivia. I'm actually starting to like Olivia and her cousin Nevan. They're fun to watch and whether she seems suspect or not, at least she's not like watching paint dry.
Daddy's Girls - This show really isn't about anything. I swear I'm only watching at this point to see what kind of weaves they're rocking. In the beginning of the episode the girls are paid a visit by their uncle, Russel Simmons.
I love that he visited the girls to remind them not to mess up the company or their money - not to mention letting Vanessa know that she was on "some real Jessica Simpson shit" by saying the cellulose in maple syrup was what caused cellulite. This entire episode was about their cousin Jessica's need for a car, particularly a company car, and the girls being faced with the decision to host parties at a club or stick with the relationship they've established with the Girl Scouts of America. They were offered "good money" to host parties at this LA club, Vice. Now, I can't speak for everyone but would you really be in a mad dash to the club just because they were hosting a party? Didn't think so... The girls decided to pass on the club money and invest in their growing relationship with the Girl Scouts.
They also were able to get Jessica the company car that she wanted. They wrapped a Mercedes with "pastry" stuff and that way it can be a "company car" (and a tax write-off).

Tool Academy (Monday nights on VH1) - Knocking Bromance out of the running for my new guilty pleasure reality tv show is VH1's Tool Academy. Under the guise of competing in the "Mr. Awesome" competition (yes, people will audition for ANY type of show to be on TV) a group of guys are brought to a mansion and think they're in a regular tv competition...that is until they're all faced with their girlfriends! It turns out that it's the "tool academy" and the goal is to rehab these toolish boyfriends into gentlemen.
Maybe I like the show because it deals with the many complexities of everyday relationships... or possibly because I love using the word "tool" and am glad to see that VH1 has caught on. The guys use their real names but are also given names like "Tiny Tool", "Naked Tool", "Party Tool" and "Slacker Tool". So far the show has been entertaining and I think would be perfect for young couples to watch together (20-somethings). Each episode the couples deal with topics like fidelity, communication, and humility... and each week a "tool" is voted off. Upon leaving the house the girlfriends are waiting at the limo and must decide if they're going to continue dating their tool. If you have some time on a Monday night turn to VH1 and check it out.

Guilty Pleausure TV
Bromance (Monday nights on MTV) - I had completely written off this show as more MTV foolery but after watching the first few episodes of Bromance I actually like it.
It's an entertaining show that focuses on Brody Jenner's search for a "bro", the male version of a BFF. In tonight's episode I was shocked as I watched 4 of the castmates be brought to tears as they competed to win over Brody. Men don't usually cry...on tv...men that are under 25 really don't cry on tv. In addition to winning the grand prize of a friendship with Brody, the winner will also get to call a wonderful penthouse suite on the top of some bldg home. I'm sure there's a long string attached to this...not to mention the fact that these average 20-something guys could never afford this place. Who knows...maybe they'll be put on salary to be his friend! Oh yeah, I was wondering how this show won me over...the gay guy contestant! After the first day, or I guess halfway thru the first day...wait, maybe the 2nd...lol...he ended up eliminating himself because he said it "wasn't what he thought it'd be" and even went on to say that he "thought it'd be like 'The Hills'" Hilarious! I'm sure he just wanted to chill with LC and Lo. He was priceless...and his quote: Behind every hot girl is her gay best friend!
Speaking of "The City" did anyone catch tonight's episode? How in the hell was Whitney able to afford that apartment? Well, obviously she has her cash from all "The Hills" episodes, but damn! To be 23, living in New York, and lamping up in a bomb apartment! Must be nice. Her furniture was also really cute too.
It inspires me to head to IKEA (though I lust over everything in Z Gallerie) and let loose! Also intriguing me were some of the fashions worn by the cast on the official shoot. These shoes were screaming my name (namely the pink ones). I'm glad to see the photographer shared my sentiments and captured a pic of them! Also, I fell in love with this dress worn by Erin. Where can I get that?

Moving on with more guilty pleasure tv shows...
Rock of Love: Tour Bus (VH1...not sure what night) - I'm actually watching this show as I type this. I stumbled upon it... not much else to choose from at midnight.
It was a toss up between WE's "Rich Bride, Poor Bride" or History Channel's "Seven Signs of the Apocalypse". This isn't a show that I'd waste tivo space on, rush home to watch or even bother to figure out what day comes on...but if you're fumbling thru channels and find it take a look.
Again, Brett Michaels is on a search for his number one groupie jump off. It's an entertaining show, kinda like watching the sloppy drunk chick at the club except you get to do it from the comfort of your own home. Already the chicks are binge drinking, making out, throwing up and even fighting! Gotta love VH1 and their great programming!

I'm starting to realize that my last few posts have all been about either movies or tv shows...nice to see reality tv sucking me back in. Oh yeah,
"Daddy's Girls" premiered tonight! Ummm...I'll watch this show not because it's a "good" show but because I was a fan of "Run's House" and am already a part of their following. (not to mention they strategically placed it to air right after 'The City'). Vanessa and Angela are in LA and basically calling the hand-me-down apart of LC and friends home. They didn't do much this episode besides move-in, welcome their cousin to LA, eat out for dinner, exercise, eat out for breakfast...Typical LA stuff.
Angela talked about being dumped by her ex-boyfriend (some guy named TK) and debating whether to throw a ring he gave her off the mountain or pawn it (happy to say she decided to keep and get the cash!). Wanting to see her step out of her comfort zone and MO of dating cute losers, she got set up on a blind date by her friend Alycia - - the guy seemed nice but take a look at the picture to the left. If you opened the door and that was staring back you, well, what would you say? She was a good sport and they went dancing. Did anyone else think her outfit was wack? It's like she was channeling 80s Madonna. Since when do you ever need to wear a huge pink bow, black leather jacket and string of pearls anywhere? It was kinda cute to watch her dad call them every 10 secs. I'm sure it's hard letting go. I'll continue to watch this show. Hell, it's right after "The City" so I'll get sucked in within the first few minutes before I have a chance to change the channel.
