Where to go for a Men's Haircut in Seattle
@SeattleBarber

This weekend my boyfriend obliged my desire to treat him like a real-life Ken doll and let me take him to a black barbershop for the first time! Since this was his first time going to a black barbershop, I took the lead and made his appointment with barber (and Seattle Barber owner) Glen Charles. He'd been growing out his hair and beard for the appointment, and it proved a great canvas for Glen to work his magic.

Seattle Barber is a dope shop located in the heart of Seattle's Capitol Hill Neighborhood and caters to ALL hair types. What impressed me most, besides Glen's skill as a barber, was the diversity in his shop. I saw a White, Black and Asian barber (not including Glen) and his clientele reflected that same diversity.

It's really cool to see a shop that mirrors the diversity of the neighborhood it's located in, as well as being able to offer men of all backgrounds a great cut. Literally ANYONE can walk in and trust that Seattle Barber is equipped to handle their hair type.

I know this isn't the biggest issue for my boyfriend, but as a black woman I know the struggle of having to call around and see if a salon can do your hair. With the constant stream of transplants moving into the city, it's nice to know Seattle Barber can take care of you.

Funny Story: While my bf was getting his hair cut, someone called the shop and asked Glen if they could cut black hair. He chuckled before saying yes. Listen folks. The struggle is real for people of color.

Cuts range between $23 to $28 with beard services being an extra $5. Walk-ins are accepted, but let's keep it real -- you're better off making an appointment with the barber of your choice. If you'd like to get in with Glen, he recommended booking your appointment a week out via text. Seattle Barber is open Tues-Sat from 12p to 7p and is CASH ONLY!!!

Valentine's Men's Hair Tailor
@ValentinesSeattle

So, the world is officially going to shit faster than I can keep up, but while you're actively fighting against the injustices Cheeto Satan is implementing, self-care is a must! They say when you look good, it helps you to feel good and nobody is keeping men's vibes in order better than Thaddeus Valentine.

Valentine, owner of Valentine's Men's Hair Tailor, transforms hairlines, beards and lives in his North Seattle shop -- located in Greenwood on 80th Ave and Greenwood Ave North. I can honestly say I would've never ventured far enough North to discover this place... and it would've been my loss.

Valentine was one of the featured vendors at the Daybreak Pop-up Market I attended earlier this month and let me just start by saying I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the amount of time, technique and attention to detail he took doing my boyfriend's beard and hair cut. Y'all... it was seriously like watching an artist at work. I couldn't contain my excitement. Zero chill. All the way turnt up. I was so freaking happy.

The only downside to Valentine's that I could find is the price point. Looking at Valentine's pricing definitely made my jaw drop. Like, his prices are so damn high that my jaw not only dropped, but remained there for at least a solid 2 minutes. A traditional haircut with one of his stylists costs $80. That includes a shampoo, condition, and cut. A haircut with Valentine costs $160 and adds in a scalp massage. I'd liken it to seeing the master stylist/owner of a salon, which is understandably more expensive. Also keep in mind that Valentine has over 20 years of experience and is operating as a high-end "Men's Hair Tailor" and not your run of the mill barber shop. Still, this price point is high af and something I can easily see being a blocker to making Valentine's your go-to spot for regular hair cuts and beard maintenance, depending on budget.

Since my boyfriend was able to get his haircut and beard trim complimentary at the event (this is a huge value), he's going to use the next few weeks to see how the cut and beard grows out and how easily he can keep it up at home before needing to get it redone.

Beard service offered at Valentine's include Beard Maintenance ($25), Beard Shaping ($45), Beard Grooming ($65) and Beard Tailoring ($90). The website only breaks down what is included in the "Beard Maintenance" package, so you'd have to stop by the shop or give them a call to get the details on the other services.

Keeping it 100, I think a regular haircut with Valentine will be on the expensive side for my boyfriend, so it might be more of a special occasion situation, but I could see him regularly going for beard maintenance and learning how to maintain it in-between appointments. That's another highlight of Valentine's -- he's focused on educating his return clients on how to maintain their haircuts and beard shape-ups at home. We all know that 5 o'clock shadow gives no fucks about how high end of a fade you just got... it'll be growing out with a quickness.

Overall, I am happy I got to witness the technical magic of Valentine up close and personal. I can vouch for the quality of his work and the time he takes, and even with the high prices, I think it's a valuable splurge for the man who either has the coins or a special occasion. When my boyfriend first saw himself he goes, "My face has never looked this good..." and that's truly a testament to the magic Valentine is doing.

Beard Season: Know your History

The official start of summer is only a few weeks away and I know some dudes are deciding whether or not to ditch their beards. Before I lose my shit and go on a rampage regarding how all men look 1000% better with facial hair, I thought it might be nice to give everyone a formal history on beards! Yes, there are levels to this shit...

Hit 'em with a combo #BeardGang

I don't know if this guy is a thick neck because... well, I can't really see his neck lol. But I can see a luxurious beard and admirable stache that features a little curl on the end. Way to add some flavor to your situation, bearded guy.

 On top of his glorious mane that is doing #BeardGang proud, I'm of course obsessed with his hat since I have one that's very similar which I rock daily.

If you're somewhere in the country trying to stay warm, hopefully this bearded wonder can give you some warmth! Nothing like a cute guy with boyish looks and a grown man  beard to make a girl smile!

Happy Friday... and #GoHawks lol

King of the Beards #4EverBeardSeason

I've grown tired of Thick Necks each Thursday as evidenced by my lack of updated posts. I mean, how many times can I post The Rock? lol... but BEARDS? Yes... I can easily find men of all shapes and sizes that are about that #4EverBeardSeason life.

There's something so amazingly wondrous about a man that can not only grow a beard, but rock a luxurious one. I love thick necks... but I swoon for men that rep #BeardGang.

Starting things off I'm featuring the owner of the best beard in all of the land, my boyfriend. His beard looks as if it's been dipped in the finest of juices and berries... bathed in milk and honey... then topped off with a dusting of cinnamon delight! The force is strong in those auburn strands and I'm its biggest fan.

When we first started dating I remember putting him on to Whipped Good's "Beard Butter" (a must have for anyone with a beard) and between that and olive oil, his beard entered the legion of the greats. He consistently gets complimented on his beard and asked for tips on how he's made it so great. The answer? Beard Butter and Olive Oil...and a dash of jedi magic!

Welcome to my world where it's always #BeardSeason.

Thick Neck Thursday: Beard Season

Here Is a Jason Momoa Appreciation Gif Wall Because Jason Momoa
'Tis the season to turn all the way up and praise the lord for beards! Yes, that glorious, downward growing crown of jewels only a lucky few are able to grow.

There's just something so sexy about a man that can grow a beard. A nice full beard. Not a struggle beard. Let's keep it 100 -- we ALL know someone that has that odd patchy looking beard. Why? I don't know... like a guy going bald yet trying to hang on to those few strands... just let it go!

Anyways, who better to kick off Beard Season than the ultimate thick neck Jason Momoa. Can we take a moment of silence for the fine specimen of man that is Jason Momoa... and the church said Amen!!! So, yeah... in honor of beard season (my favorite season), I'm going to dedicate every thick neck Thursday to our bearded beauties!

Come join me for this exciting ride using the hashtag #TNTBeardSeason
