Out Here Tryna Function

I almost posted the #TwerkTeam version of this video, but that was just a tad bit too ratchet (even for me)... but this E-40 song has me longing to be back on the West Coast. My birthday is a week away and this has officially been deemed the theme song for the weekend... We just out here tryna function lol...

Bottoms Up (via @throttle_nerd)

It's the middle of the night and I just discovered how to make an animated GIF!!! I feel like a rock star... a somewhat sleepy rock star... but a star nonetheless!

Oh, Chaddy...

I had an amazing time at the comedy show last night. Tons of laughs, a few too many White Russians, and quality time with Envy (vroom vroom). As I'm sitting in work trying to process what my entire life force is about (and not write an angry letter to HGTV for "House Hunters" being a fucking sham - - yes, I'm really that pissed), my co-worker sent me this video and it gave me life!! I still need to have my wisdom teeth removed and I'm dreading the type of footage I would give someone if I'm sitting around doped up like this lol... Anyways, it's Friday and the weekend is nearly here! Enjoy this video and be glad your parents didn't do this to you lol.

Encouraging Words

"Be patient. The struggle is getting caught sometimes between ambition and patience. We have the ambition and the drive that gets us up in the morning, that makes us want to do all these things but we have to be patient because its all about timing. I look at my own life. I know all of this is happening at the right time and if any of it happened any sooner I would’ve blown it or wouldn’t have been able to sustain it. Don’t give up hope over one tough scene in your life. There are a number of scenes the hero has to fight through to get the victory in the end. Faith works. That’s my message to you. That’s my hope, that’s my heart." - - (Via NecoleBitchie)

Dating and Social Media

Have you ever met someone new and within 24 hours you have a Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn friend request from them? I'll admit that I've done my fair share of social media stalking, but when it comes to dating what is the appropriate level of social media etiquette?

In the past week I've encountered friends twitter stalking the ex's of people they're dating, ex's that refuse to allow the other to follow them on social media sites, and those that casually date and get pissed at what they see the other person doing... thus it would seem like social media can cause a shit load of problems.

Personally I've gotten a lot more selective about the people I add on Facebook. I'm not into collecting friends and I barely can think of 20 people I like, let alone having 1000 friends. I feel like Facebook contains personal photos, etc and isn't something I want anyone and everyone having access to. I will easily deny a friend request. Twitter is fun for me and I use it more so for my blog. It's not a big deal to follow people and have them follow me, but for professional reasons I do keep my page locked.

As it pertains to dating, I try to not keep Twitter/Facebook tabs on someone I'm with. I mean, live your life... just don't do anything messy. I'm not sure if it's better to keep social media and personal relationships separate but recently I've seen the benefits. I guess if you know someone in real life it's not that big of a deal to not be all up in and throughout their social media life force? What say you blogging friends?

Kittens make me smile...

It's impossible to watch this video and not have a cheesy grin spread across your face. Kittens are so freaking adorable and I'm proud to say I'm a cat parent to two rambunctious babies - - Smudge and Misty. They provide countless hours of entertainment and lullaby me to sleep with their purrs and kneading massages.

Words of Wisdom from HBO's "GIRLS"

"It's like you think meeting a guy is the main point of life so we have to have like a summit every day to make a game plan"

HBO's original series "GIRLS" has quickly become one of my favorite scripted shows on TV right now. Every episode is chocked full of memorable quotes and last night one hit close to home. The above quote made me think about a conversation I recently had with a girlfriend regarding men, relationships and how consuming it can be. Not just consuming, but all-encompassing and overwhelming.

The amount of time that I spend thinking about men and relationships is borderline disgusting. I'm actually appalled at myself for having it be such an important part of my life. Playing devil's advocate, I do believe that relationships are the core of human existence (duh) and therefore one of the most interesting things to try and understand... but my daily dissection of everything someone has done, said, didn't say, going to do, etc is to the point of exhaustion.

Sometimes I wish I could just hit a 'reset' button in my head and start from scratch. Go back to the days when I didn't care about men and got all my joy from eating ice cream, riding my bike, and being awesome. The innocence of a child is a beautiful thing and as I get older I think there's something to be learned from them. They are fearless, happy, and free of the worries and concerns that plague us in adulthood.

Yesterday I went to the "Wells Street Art Fair" with my girlfriends and enjoyed the sweltering heat, fresh kettle corn, and art. I also discovered Bud Light Lime tastes pretty good (a friend told me to not admit to liking that beer since it's so cheap... but shit, it was pretty refreshing lol) and after stopping in a sex shop and chatting up the guy behind the counter (Johnny), I discovered tranny porn was shot across the street, it would take at least a year to master tantric sex, and vampire blood incense is a real thing. What does all of this mean? It means that when you're out living life it gives you a few less moments to be consumed with relationship woes, sunshine and girlfriends are the remedy to any boredom or blues, and life is short so it's best to get to living it.

On another note, I fall deeper in love with my MAC "Ruby Woo" lipstick more and more each day. It has incredible lasting power and can handle heat, food and drinks like a champ. If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon for this stuff yet please go out and buy it. It's awesome.

Prometheus Movie Premiere

Last night I had the pleasure of going to the premiere of Prometheus at AMC 21. Now, I'm sure nobody wants to trust my judgment in movies after my ill-fated recommendation of Snow White and the Huntsman... but let me tell you, Prometheus is a great movie. Now, I'm not going to call it the movie of the year, but I saw it last night in 3D and it was a wonderful way to wash away the sorrows of Snow White.

It's a SciFi flick which isn't always my thing, but full of action and plenty of moments that will make you jump. It's the prequel to the Alien franchise... but if you need another reason to go - - Idris Elba! Need I say more? Didn't think so lol.

Watching this film made me wonder why we aren't this advanced yet. Like, why aren't we capable of having massive, fully livable ships exploring space. Or, why don't we have surgery pods that perform anything we need. Seriously...

Grey Goose Cherry Noir + Drake @ V-Live Chicago

Thanks to an invite from my wonderful neighbor, my girlfriends and I were able to hit up V-Live Saturday night for the Grey Goose Cherry Noir/Drake after party. I'm all about rocking a wristband and sitting in VIP *insert sarcasm* but it was definitely nice to have bottle service and be away from the massive crowd in the club (see above picture).

As I'm approaching my 28th birthday (in 3 weeks), I've come to realize that my ear is no longer glued to the club streets. I would much rather do weekly brunches and occasional lounge nights instead of packing myself into sweaty clubs full of 23 year olds. It was no surprise I hadn't heard of V-Live, but the club didn't disappoint. This would probably be a club lover's wet dream. Multiple floors of action, great music, diverse crowd - - this club was oozing with everything super clubs in Vegas are made of. I'm on my tail end of clubbing days, but I did enjoy the people watching, Grey Goose Cherry Noir, and Drake.

I joked with my friends that I instantly got more emo once Drake walked into the room, but it was cool seeing him in person. His head is super big and he looks like wheelchair Jimmy... just your average, run of the mill black/Jewish kid... Oh, except for the fact that he runs with a huge posse, gets tons of groupie love, and has an insane amount of talent.

Speaking of which, watching the constant hoe-cessional of chicks flocking to get into his VIP section was comedic at times, but overall sad. I mean, the club dreams these chicks have... stars in their eyes... at home throwing on their tightest dress to prance around a velvet rope and catch some rapper's eye all in the hopes of getting chose for the night. What? To drink free, smoke something, maybe leave with a story to tell your friends? No thanks... I'll pass. It's fun to be out and about, but there's nothing like a having a legit career and W2. I like making my money sitting up, what can I say lol. Anyways, the club was open until like 5am or something insanely ridiculous, but we made our exit around 3. It was WAY past my bedtime and I couldn't wait to hit the sack.

On an alcohol related note, Grey Goose Cherry Noir was pretty tasty. My loyalties still lie with Rum and Tequila, but if you're a Vodka fan please give it a whirl. Find out more about the new flavor here.

The force is strong...

... but sometimes you have to sit back and let Marvin speak for you.

Snow White and the Huntsman [Update]

** I wanted to update everyone that I rushed, like an overzealous nut bag to see this movie opening night. I was pissed that the 730 and 1030 shows were sold out, but jumped at the chance to snag tickets for the 1155 show. Yes, it was super late, but I had been sucked in by the trailer and seeing it opening night was a must. Umm... Yeah, that was a bad idea. The movie was too much "snow white" and not nearly enough "huntsman"... it actually made me annoyed to watch it. Yes, Charlize Theron was gorgeous and Chris Hemsworth gives me life... but VIP seats to a midnight showing of a so-so movie? Fuck that son. I'm not about that life. I'd recommend waiting for this to come on HBO and saving your bucks. I really felt hoodwinked by seeing this in theaters. Oh well... You've been warned! **

Truth be told I have no inkling of the original Disney "Snow White" movie, but this right here? This looks amazeballs! Best believe I'll be parked in the theater this weekend and watching this all wide-eyed and bushy tailed. The trailer sucked me in and let's be real - - Thor (Chris Hemsworth) stars in the movie and I don't need an excuse to watch him. All day, every day! He can get it - - STAT! Okay, okay... let me simmer down a bit. I've been getting amazing sleep all week and I'm in a great mood. Even the shitty Chicago weather isn't dampening my spirits. I've secretly enjoyed rocking my Fall-esque clothes and boots again. Anyways, if you're on the hunt for a movie to see this weekend I highly recommend "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Have a great weekend!!!

XOXO

DIY Tie Die Jeans (via @Stuff_She_Likes)

I'm not much of a DIY-er, but I came across these awesome DIY Tie Dye jeans on Stuff She Likes, one of my favorite blogs. If you're looking for a fun way to change up a pair of jeans you must visit the site to get the simple steps.

I'm thinking about trying it out with a pair of cheapies from Forever21. Not sure if I want to commit to potentially ruining a nicer pair of jeans... but I'd love to add these in the summer wardrobe with a neon top!
