Fake Lashes. Real Problems

I attempted to apply the NYX lashes I bought this past weekend from Ulta and I encountered problems galore! People make it seem so easy but it was beyond difficult for me to grasp. Between the glue, trimming the lashes, using my tweezers to apply and keeping a steady hand, I couldn't manage to get them close enough to my lash line. Does anyone out there have experience using fake lashes? Since this was such a major fail I'm glad that the lashes were my "buy 2 get 1 free" item lol...

Living the Life

This picture satisfies my inner jet set bug in the best way

I'm a fan of the Kardashians and when I saw this pic it made me a tad bit jealous. Not "green with envy" jealous, but like DAMN!!! Despite how their family became famous (because do we really even know??) I enjoy their show, their sisterhood, style, and image. They're all so different but come together for refreshing reality tv. Khloe is my favorite - - probably because we were born on the same day, same year! I love her personality... the typical cancer: tough on the outside, mushy on the inside!

Man vs. Burger Challenge

Know someone with an insane appetite and nothing to do this weekend? Check out Lobby's Beef.Burgers.Dogs as they host their 1st annual Man vs. Burger 1/2 price challenge.

Great body without the gym?

Am I the only person that rolls my eyes at the Sketcher's Shape Ups and Reebok EasyTone sneaker commercials? Besides the fact that the Shape Ups are hideous, I think marketing to women that you can have this amazing body without ever stepping foot inside of a gym is a joke! The Reebok Easy Tone sneakers are visually more appealing with their balance ball technology, but their marketing still relies heavily on avoiding the gym and gaining great results.

Always on the search for a quick fix, they might as well manufacture a magic wand lol. Ladies, don't believe the hype. While these shoes may improve some stimulation to your muscles, please don't think it'll come without exercise. Those hoping for miraculous results with little work as possible should invest in a plastic surgeon or a magic wand... because a gym shoe is not going to solve any of your weight woes.

Has anyone tried either of these shoes? What are your thoughts?

Did I buy that?

This past weekend consisted of TOO much impulse buying on my part. It felt like every product was screaming my name and yearning to be saved from the shelves of whatever store and placed in my bag. Sephora, Ulta and Target were NOT safe from my hands. Instead of including generic photos and a description I decided to give vlogging a try. This is my first attempt at is so please forgive the length of the video and my randomness, but I really liked it! I think I'll be adding more vlogs into my blog posts in the future.

Reality Check: Dhani Tackles Senegal

In tonight's episode Dhani continues tackling the globe in the West African country of Senegal. With preparation from his trainer and home town Lutte wrestling champion Bombardier, Dhani is trained on the popular Senegalese sport of Lutte, which has origins in Olympic wrestling.

At 6'1" 235lbs, watching Dhani attempt to put on his loin cloth is definitely a sight to see, but even more impressive is his trainer and hometown hero Bombardier, coming in at an impressive 6'7" and 300 lbs. Women will love the eye candy as these Lutte athletes train on the beach (chocolate, buff bodies in barely nothing? Yes please!) Men will love the athleticism and competitive nature of the sport. Everyone will watching Dhani embrace the Senegalese culture, rich in culture, history and love for their hometown sport.

New episodes air Monday nights on the Travel Channel.

Best Day Ever

Yesterday morning I woke up to an amazing treat - - an email from Carol's Daughter notifying me that their amazing Body Jelly was now back in stock!!! My heart started racing and I rolled over and hopped on my laptop... I needed to buy this stuff asap before it sold out again. I've been waiting over a month for their jelly to be re-stocked so you already know I was thirsty for this email.

At $15 for a 16oz jar, their body jelly has replaced vaseline and all other body creams as my body moisturizer of choice. Carol's Daughter is currently offering free shipping on orders of $45 or more. My stuff should get here in 2-5 days! I can't wait... neither can my skin.

Reality Check: Dhani Tackles the Globe

NFL linebacker and Travel Channel cutie Dhani Jones is back for another season of his show, Dhani Tackles the Globe. I covered some of Dhani's adventures last year (here and here) and am excited for round 2. This is the perfect blend of travel show and sports, appealing to both men and women... definitely a show you can watch with your boyfriend or husband and not worry about them changing the channel.

Dhani kicks off season 2 tonight @ 8p, trying his hand at professional and Olympic cycling as well as facing Italy's Monte Grappa.

Love vs. Money

The topic of gold diggers and those choosing to marry for money over love is pretty old. Still, when I saw LisaRaye state on her reality show that she was not in love when she got married but instead compared it to a business deal it surprised me. Not because this isn't something people do, but because she's in the midst of a bitter divorce battle to get millions of dollars she feels she's entitled to. Well, I think proclaiming on national TV that your marriage was a business deal and there was no love doesn't help your legal case.

I'm curious to know everyone's opinion on this situation. If you're married for what's just a blip on the radar, you admit it wasn't because of love, and you're eager to get your payday (like LisaRaye) do you think this is just karma catching up with her? Or does she deserve to get paid? Is it okay to date for money, just not marry for money?

I know of many women that have no issue keeping suitors around that are helping to finance their lifestyle, and I try not to judge them... but I think there's NOTHING better than getting stuff on your own. There's something to be said about creating a lifestyle for yourself and not being nervous that you can get cut off or have the plug pulled.

** I found this video on LisaRaye and her ex when they were prepping for their wedding. Take a look and let me know if you see any cracks in the veneer of their relationship **

Photo Fun

Something about the polaroid style of photos is old school, yet still a bit fun. In the middle of the night I got a crazy urge to tweak my photos and I found this great site Poladroid Project that lets you turn any of your photos into a polaroid! Here are a few of mine:

Tech L♥ve

I found this iPhone case on Overstock and it's the cutest thing in the world to me. Following the advice of my accountant I need to invest in a business line so maybe an iPhone isn't out of the picture.I'm a proud blackberry girl, but this phone case makes me want to switch teams!!!

I'm going to obsess over this case until it's mine. I have a name for it and everything! Patches McGhee... yes, Patches McGhee will be my iPhone case and I think I'll name my iPhone Leila.

Wait, AT&T is a garbage network so I'd probably have to wait for the iPhone to be on Verizon. *le sigh* maybe I should just opt for the iTouch. Decisions, Decisions!!

Does anyone else have a current "tech lust"? Better yet, who has a cool phone case?

Did I say That?

Every once in a while you find yourself needing a good laugh at someone else's expense... and for those moments Texts From Last Night was created! This is a gem of a site featuring various submissions of texts from the previous night. These are a few of my favorites:

~ Her best friend sent her a random hate text and the song they played at her father's funeral came on the radio. I just got cock blocked by the universe

~ my math teacher staples burger king applications to failed tests

~ rather than putting your name in guys phones, you just texted 90999 to donate $10 to Haiti and then gave it back to them

Reading these random text messages really allowed me to let out some belly laughs that I hadn't in a while. They have a ton of funny stuff on the site. Take a look!

Oh and they have a book too!!! Great for the coffee table.

Reality Check: Tiny & Toya

Let me be the first to say I instantly did not like this show. I wrote it off after the first preview and thought it was a joke BET was even airing it. Saturday afternoon I found myself enjoying a relaxing day in the house and with nothing to do. My TV somehow made its way to BET and I caught the season 1 marathon of Tiny & Toya.

Tonight is the Season 2 premiere of Tiny & Toya and cameras will continue to follow the duo as they tackle family life, career and making a name for themselves in Atlanta, GA. I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm excited to watch season 2 of this show. Once I got past their accents, I was able to really delve into their storylines and believe it or not, they really do touch me. *crickets* Yes, I know... it's crazy for me to be "Team Tiny & Toya" because I had NOTHING but negative things to say. I'm glad I gave this show a 2nd chance because it really is good.

New episodes air Tuesday nights on BET 9p central time.

Basketball Wives?

Where do I even begin with the "Basketball Wives" reality show that premiered on VH1 tonight? This show is a joke. It’s called “Basketball Wives” but really the only thing these women have in common is that they’ve slept with NBA players. I think the show consists of 1 wife (headed for divorce), a divorcee, a fiancee, an ex-girlfriend and a former NBA dancer/baby mama. This show is a low brow version of the Bravo “housewives” series and a joke in my opinion. If you want to have a show about Basketball Wives, find ACTUAL wives.

It's somewhat surprising that VH1 picked up this show, but judging by the other lineup of Sunday night reality shows I probably shouldn't be. Wedged between Brandy and Ray J trying to extend their relevance and Chili and her baby hair looking for a man, the show airs Monday nights at 10p. If you have nothing better to do take a look and judge for yourself... but me? I don't have room for another reality show featuring grown ass women perpetrating a fake friendships and acting catty. I understand they all want their 15 mins of fame, but they all are really too grown for these reindeer games.

I'll pass on this one.

Reality Check: LisaRaye

Let it be known that LisaRaye only wears white. Don't believe it? One only needs to sneak a peak inside her closet and you'll be greeted with what appears to be an all access pass into a lifelong Diddy white party. I'm all about brown skin in white, but wearing white 24/7 borders on excessive. A white wardrobe, white Rolls Royce and white diamonds are the norm in the world of LisaRaye.

In her new reality show, LisaRaye: The Real McCoy, we are shown a side of LisaRaye that few have seen. Her life as a mother, post divorce battle and daily grind to get back into the limelight are a few of the things we get to see.

I like LisaRaye. She reminds me of a really pretty, high maintenance ghetto chick that you could be friends with. She's down to earth and real, but a bit self absorbed. Is she a gold digger or just a women that knows her worth and goes for what she feel she deserves? I haven't figured it out yet but I'll keep watching. She's grabbed my attention and this is another reality show that has made the cut.

On a side note, I must say that I really like her relationship with her daughter Kai. She comes across as an overly affectionate, loving mother. I also love that her daughter works at Bath and Body Works. I'm all about kids having jobs and not getting handouts from their parents.

New episodes air Thursday nights @9p on TVOne

Reality Check: Christian Siriano (Having a Moment)

Everyone's favorite Project Runway winner is back on Bravo with his own reality show. In Christian Siriano: Having a Moment viewers are given a behind the scenes look at Siriano's daily life as he builds his mini fashion empire. Airing Monday nights on BravoTV, the first episode showed Siriano as he (along with his wonderful staff, family and boyfriend) tackled the chaos of NY Fashion Week and his 3rd runway show.

I miss Project Runway being on BravoTV (I just couldn't get with Lifetime) and I'm a fan of Siriano so this show works for me. Any fashion addict or lover of reality TV will be able to appreciate this new show. I can't say that it's something I'll rush home to see, but it does make it on my "must dvr" list.

U by Kotex

I remember being in 6th grade, on a field trip and having the period from hell. I was new to the world of pads (my mom didn't want me wearing tampons) and besides feeling like I was walking around with the equivalent of a boat between my legs, I was embarrassed to talk about it with friends. Long story short - - I didn't know how often to change my pad, I didn't feel comfortable carrying pads around with me, and ended up with a bloody mess... literally! I nearly died of humiliation when I realized my saggy pad and period had oozed its way out to make a cameo on the outside of my jeans. I grabbed by sweatshirt and tied it around my waist as I spent the rest of the day eager to get home.

The summer going into 7th grade, as more friends started their periods, I was introduced to tampons. We were desperate to go swimming at the local country club but I had my period and felt like it was a death sentence. Summertime, periods and pads didn't go together. Luckily a friend told me I could wear a tampon and still go swimming. Looking back I know I didn't insert it correctly but it did the job and I was able to have a fun time.

Times have changed! U by Kotex is the latest campaign from Kotex aimed at changing the way women view their period. The company states:

Newsflash: It’s not the 1950s anymore. Talking openly about many intimate health issues is no longer taboo. In fact, it’s encouraged, leading to increased awareness and better health care for people everywhere. So why is it that society and the media still can’t get it together when it comes to women’s issues below the waist? Sadly, this secrecy and shame about all things related to vaginal health have a negative impact on a woman’s body image, self-esteem and overall health.

In a recent survey, 70% of women said they wish society would change the way it talks about vaginal health, but less than half feel like they can do anything about it. U by Kotex* brand wants to help women change the conversation about periods and vaginal care. By bringing it out into the open, we hope that every woman will learn to think differently, talk openly, take charge, help Break the Cycle* and begin to feel comfortable with her body and confident about her personal care.

I love their new "U by Kotex" campaign. Check out the commercials, they're refreshingly honest and pretty funny. Do you guys have any period horror stories?

Product Review: Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes

Finding the perfect eyeliner can be a daunting task. You want something that is long lasting, affordable and for me, I need something that can make my upper eye pop as well as the inner rim. Every makeup aficionado knows that taking your eye from day to night is as simple as lining the inner rim!!

On my search for the perfect eyeliner I found while Kohl eyeliners were great for blending purposes (everyone loves a smokey eye) nothing can compete with Make Up Forever's Aqua Eyes.

Available exclusively at Sephora, this waterproof eyeliner is amazing to say the very least. It's the only eyeliner I've found that can handle all day wear and really doesn't come off until you use Eye Makeup Remover for waterproof makeup. Now, this stuff isn't cheap... it's about $17 but it's WELL worth the price. I haven't found a cheaper product that does the same thing. Sometimes you have to know when to splurge and when to save... and this is most definitely a splurge.

When it comes to buying a kohl eyeliner that's where I choose to save. I like Rimmel London's Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner. It comes in a bunch of colors and cost under $6. This is actually a pretty good product and the only one I buy. If you guys know of any other affordable, kohl eyeliners out there please share! I'm all about expanding my make up repertoire.

Life made Simple

A pizza craving hit me Saturday night and I decided to order some Domino's. Say what you will, but I've always liked their pizza. I think it goes back to 'pizza days' in elementary school lol... but I was on the phone and decided to try ordering my food online. Wow is all I can say... their online ordering process is AMAZING! Sometimes we find things that make life that much easier for us and Domino's has not only mastered, but set the bar HIGH for online ordering.

From the moment I placed my order I was given an up to the minute update on its status. I opted for pickup instead of delivery and it was beyond helpful to see when my pizza had been placed in the oven to bake... was being inspected... and even ready for pick up!

Now... you may be thinking what good is this fabulous online ordering process if their pizza doesn't rock your world. Well, I must also add that all of the advertising they've been doing about having improved the taste of their food is true! Their crust is better, the ingredients tastier and the sauce... well, saucier! I have to say that I was really pleased with their pizza... pleased enough to pass the word along my my blog friends that this is a must try. You can visit their online site and see what coupons/specials are available in your area... but please have a taste and let me know what you think.
